How To Bet On The 2020 NHL Playoffs From USA

By Hockey

The 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway. The NHL returned on August 1st with the Play-In round and the league is now midway through the first round of the playoffs.

This years playoffs are different in that all of the playoff teams are competing in one of two bubbles. The Western Conference Playoffs is taking place in Edmonton and the Eastern Conference is battling it out in Toronto. That said, the playoffs are still following the same format as every other year and a Stanley Cup Champion will be crowned in late September or early October.

On this page I will provide you with everything you need to bet on the 2020 NHL Playoffs from anywhere in the United States. I’ve outlined our top rated betting sites for Americans, touched on the different bets you can make on the NHL Playoffs and finished with a simple 3 step guide you can follow to place your bets online.

I will be using screenshots and examples from SportsBetting.ag, our top betting site, for the remainder of this guide.

Stanley Cup Futures Betting

One of the most popular bets during the NHL Playoffs is simply to wager on the eventual Stanley Cup Champion. This futures bet gives you a sweat through the entire playoffs and if your pick hits you can be in for a big payday.

These odds are found at SportsBetting.ag by opening the ‘Hockey’ drop down menu and selecting ‘NHL Futures’. Here is a screenshot taken midway through the first round.

You can also bet on the Conference Champions in the same NHL Futures section.

NHL Series Winner Betting

Another popular bet is wagering on which team will win a 7 game series. These are my favourite bets in the NHL Playoffs because they give you a multi-game bet and the 7 game series reduces the variance so you can often find +ROI bets if your predictions are correct.

You can also bet on each NHL Playoff Series at any time during the series (the bet doesn’t have to be made when the series starts).

Here’s a screenshot of the odds for the Montreal Canadiens vs Philadelphia Flyers series after 3 games with the Flyers up 2 games to 1.

These odds can be found on the SportsBetting website under the ‘Hockey’ drop down menu by selecting ‘NHL SERIES’.

NHL Playoff Game Betting

You can also wager on every game throughout the NHL Playoffs. The three most popular NHL game bets are the money line (to win), puck line (spread) and over/under (total).

Here’s a screenshot of game 4 between the Canadiens and Flyers:

In this example the Flyers are -125 favorites to win the game and take a 3-1 series lead. That means a $125 bet on Philly would win $100 (payout $225). The Canadiens are +113 underdogs, so a $100 bet on the Habs would win $113.
