UFC betting has really taken off over the past few years. I think Conor McGregor has brought a lot of mainstream eyes to the sport, and this along with sports betting as a whole becoming more popular has resulted in UFC betting gaining popularity. I added this page to help Virginia and Maryland residents learn how to bet on the UFC online.
On this page you will find the following:
- Our recommended betting site for Americans.
- Brief breakdown of the betting climate in Virginia and Maryland.
- A UFC betting example and summary of different UFC bets you can make.
- A simple 3 step guide you can follow to place UFC bets online.

Sports Betting in Virginia and Maryland
It is not currently legal to operate a sportsbook in either Virginia or Maryland.
Virginia approved legalized sports betting in the Commonwealth of Virginia in April of 2020. Regulated sports betting operators should start taking bets from Virginia residents in the near future. Learn more on our Virginia sports betting page.
Similarly, Maryland voted to approve sports betting for the purpose of raising revenue for education. This vote took place in November of 2020. Both in-person and mobile regulated sports betting will likely be introduced in Maryland in the near future.
At the current time, if you live in Maryland or Virginia, you can still bet on UFC fights through offshore betting sites that are licensed and regulated outside of the United States. SportsBetting.ag is licensed and regulated in Panama, and accepts players from everywhere in the United States.
UFC Betting Options
There are a variety of bets you can make on every single UFC fight, but the majority of action is still simply placed on which fighter will win.
The odds on each fighter indicate the risk vs reward of the bet. Let’s take a look at the odds for the Jones vs Reyes title fight at UFC 258:
In the above example Usman is a big -260 favorite. This means you would have to risk $260 on Usman to win $100 (payout $360). Burns is a +220 underdog which means a $100 bet on Burns would win $220 (payout $320).
The total rounds is another popular bet. You can see in the above screenshot the over/under on the rounds is set at 4.5. If the fight lasts past the midway point of round 5 the over bets would win, while if there is a finish before that point the under bets would win.
Here are some other UFC bets you can make a SportsBetting:
- Method of Victory – Pick the fighter and how the fight finishes (decision, knockout, submission, etc).
- Round Betting – Pick the fighter and the round they win in.
